The Lighthouse is directed by Robert Eggers who also directed The Witch. It stars Willem Dafoe, and Robert Pattinson as Lighthouse keepers and their descent into madness. This is the type of film that starts of slow as it is told through black and white. It is riveting and and mesmerizing no matter how brutal, and weird it can Willem Dafoe is probably at his peak in this film, and churns out the best performance of 2019. Yes it can be weird a lot of the time but that is all forgotten by the charm of the actors on film and how good they are. The cinematography is absolutely gorgeous as well as it almost feels like it came out in 1930s or 40s. The crazy thing when looking at this film from the outside it almost should not work because it’s just Robert Pattinson, and Willem Dafoe the whole film and it is black and white, but it absolutely does. It also makes me anticipate A24’s future films and see what other crazy ideas come out of the company.
